Guliyeva's sons deliver petition to Blair

From The Scotsman:

The sons of a woman held in Azerbaijan for allegedly carrying a pistol in her luggage handed a petition into Downing Street today demanding action to secure her release.

Almas Guliyeva, 46, from Golders Green, north London, was stopped at Baku Airport on Friday as she tried to return home after attending her uncle’s funeral.

She suffered a heart attack and is in a stable but serious condition, according to her son Ilkin, 19.

Together with his nine-year-old brother Vugar, Ilkin, a student, handed a petition into No. 10 demanding her release.

The pair have collected 330 signatures in two days with the help of family and friends.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office confirmed Mrs Guliyeva had been taken ill while in hospital and had been visited by a consular official.
